What are Crowns?

Crowns are tight-fitting caps that are placed over your natural teeth to protect them and improve their appearance. We offer beautiful traditional dental crowns in our office that will return your teeth to their natural, attractive state and keep those teeth strong and healthy for years down the line!

Do I need a crown?

Our dentist is the only one who can tell you for certain whether or not a crown is right for you, but the following are a few instances where a crown is often a great solution:
  • You have a tooth with a cavity that’s too large for a traditional filling.
  • One or more of your teeth have been badly worn down or damaged.
  • You’ve just received a root canal treatment.
  • One of your teeth is badly discolored or misshapen.
Because crowns can protect weakened teeth and conceal flaws with a casing that looks just like your natural teeth, they can address these problems and more!

What is the process of receiving a crown?

1. The first step is preparing the tooth. This might involve reshaping the tooth so the crown will fit, removing any decay, or building up the tooth’s structure so it can support a crown.
2. Next our dentist will take an impression of the tooth so your crown will be customized to fit. While your crown is being made, you may be able to wear a temporary crown to restore your tooth function in the meantime.
3. Lastly, our dentist will place the permanent crown! You’ll have the opportunity to make sure you like how the crown looks and feels before it’s secured in place. We’ll make sure you have a crown that will keep your teeth healthy and your smile bright!
